PRINCIPAL VISITS

Every other month I take the time to visit each of the students in their classrooms.  This time is scheduled so the students can get to know me and talk to me about whatever is on their minds.  We discuss many issues and the students are given time to make suggestions on how we can make our school better.  These suggestions usually deal with their school uniform or what they eat for lunch.  It does give them the opportunity to voice their opinions.  This month we discussed our school mission and our student handbook.  

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Every Friday our students will attend Eucharistic Adoration.  The students silently pray during this time using our prayer books or they may pray the rosary.  Most classes stay for 30 minutes.

SPOTLIGHT ON CHARACTER

We have started our character education program, “Spotlight on Character,” again this school year.  All faculty and staff will be looking for students who portray positive character traits.  When a student is caught being a positive role model, they will receive a Good Character Award.  This award certificate will be placed in a jar located in the school office.  On the 15th of each month, one ticket will be drawn.  The winner will receive a $10.00 gift certificate for Scrip.  To extend this program throughout our community, we will be participating in several service projects during the school year.  We hope this will further develop the students’ awareness of others and how their actions can make a difference!

 

OPENING MASS

Our opening school Mass will be August 23rd at 9:00 a.m.  We invite you to join us at the Celebration of the Eucharist.  Mr. Calhoun’s class will be planning our liturgy.  Fr. Vaughan will be celebrating with us.

OCHS FOOTBALL - 'GREEN OUT NIGHT'

Scheduled for Friday, September 14th, when the Owensboro Catholic Aces face off against the Apollo Eagles.  The game will start at 7:30 p.m at Steel Stadium.

Everyone is asked to wear their 'Green Out' shirt to the game. It will be awesome to look into the stands and see nothing but ACES green! What an incredible way to show our solidarity and support for Owensboro Catholic and our Aces Football Team.  Please do not forget to order your t-shirts.  Orders need to be in by August 22nd.

REMINDERS

• Please make sure all Internet forms have been signed and brought back to school.   The students may not get on the computer until this form is turned in.
• Also every student must turn in the form located in the front of the OCS Student Handbook.  You received the handbook in your folder at registration.  Please take the time to read through the handbook.  There are a number of changes to our handbook for this school year.  Please detach the form stating you have read the handbook, sign it, and return it to school as soon as possible.

TAILGATE PLANNING MEETING

On Monday, August 20th, there will be a planning meeting to organize this year’s Tailgate Party.  This is currently scheduled for Friday, September 7th, at OCHS.  Please make plans to attend this meeting to share ideas on how to make this our best tailgate party ever.  See attached flyer.

NCEA ACRE

In February 2007, our fifth grade students, who are now sixth graders, took the National Catholic Education Association’s Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education (NCEA ACRE).  This summary provided by the ACRE program, shows the strengths and weaknesses of students’ comprehension of various religious and catechetical topics.  Once again, our students scored above the national average in all categories. 

ELECTRONIC E-MAIL NEWS

Each day the 4-6 Campus will send out electronic e-mails with important information.  If you are not currently receiving this and would like to-You can sign up at :  owensborocatholic.org. 

Simply click on Newsletter at the top.  From there you can sign up for Electronic Newsletters from any school site, as well as from our Central Office.

DROP OFF/PICK UP

Please make sure your child knows if he/she is a 2:15 or 2:30 car rider or if he/she is riding the bus.  If students cross the street, they must use the cross walks. 

If changes in your child’s dismissal need to be made, please call the school before 1:50.  After the afternoon prayers, there is no one in the school office to answer phone calls.

TITLE I

The Title I meeting scheduled for Monday, August 20th, has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for some time in September.   

CAFETERIA NEWS

Next Friday we will be having Little Caesars Pizza for lunch.  Please fill out the form whether your child is eating or not.  This provides us with a count so we can know how many pizzas to order.  If your child is going to get extra pieces of pizza, please indicate the number of extra pizzas and sign your permission.  Students will not be allowed to get extra pieces if this form is not turned in.  Also, make sure that your child’s account has extra money for the extra pizzas.  All forms need to be turned in by Tuesday, August 21st.

This week Ms. Cissell has sent home each student’s account information. Parents are asked to review the status of their child’s account.
