ACCELERATED READER NEWS
Our AR incentives and goals are set for the 2007-08 school year. Remember AR will be included as one reading grade each quarter. For example: if a student is required to earn 10 points per quarter and only earns 9 points, the student will receive a 90% to count as one of his/her reading grades. There will be incentives for those students who choose to earn above their required points. Please read the attached information. If you have any questions, you may contact Mrs. Alvey, Mrs. Warren or Mrs. Hartz.
OCES 4-6 CAMPUS GUIDELINES FOR SUCCESS
At the 4-6 Campus we believe it is important for the students to know what our expectations are of them. We use a proactive and positive approach to managing behavior call CHAMPs , which stands for Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, and Participation. To make this easy for our students we use the acronym CHRIST.
Cooperate with everyone
Have responsible actions
Imitate Christ in all things
Show a positive attitude
Try your best

REMINDERS
We have noticed a lot of students who need to come back into school after school has been dismissed. Due to afternoon meetings and other scheduled appointments, there may not be someone in the office to let students in for forgotten items. Please help your child to remember all that he/she needs to take home each day. It might be a good idea to check this before leaving school. If students do forget something and can not get into the school; they can always come in early the next morning at 7:00 a.m. to pick up their forgotten items.
OPENING MASS
We thank Mr. Calhoun’s class for planning the opening Mass liturgy on Thursday and Fr. John Vaughan for celebrating with us. We hope you were able to join us for this celebration. Next Thursday’s Liturgy will be lead by Ms. Castlen’s fifth grade students and celebrated by Fr. Pete Hughes. Please join us!
HOMEWORK POLICY
When an assignment is turned in a day late the student will receive a ten-point deduction. After that, the student will receive a zero. Parents will be notified if delinquent homework becomes a concern. Of course, there will be extenuating circumstances to this policy, such as illness. In these cases, the teacher will work with the student to determine an appropriate deadline. Please check with your child to make sure his/her homework is being completed. We are already having trouble with some students not completing assignments. We would appreciate your cooperation.
STUDENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
For those students who need extra assistance with homework or studying we will be providing assistance for those students on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Mrs. Hartz will be working with the students on Wednesdays and Mrs. Warren will be assisting the students on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The program will be from 2:00 to 3:00 on those designated days. Parents must make arrangements for their child to be picked up by 3:00 or they will be put in our Extended Day Program with a cost of $7.00 per day.
For those students who are consistently not turning in assignments, this program will not be optional. Your child’s teacher will contact you if this is a problem to let you know when your child will be staying for this program.
ACCELERATED MATH CLASS
Mr. Thompson will be offering a special math class on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:30 – 3:15 for sixth grade students who are self-motivated, excel in mathematics and demonstrate a love for the subject. This class is not intended for students needing extra help or assistance with homework or math. Mr. Thompson will be covering topics and concepts found in Pre-algebra and Algebra. Additional homework will be assigned for this class. If your child is interested, he or she may sign up for this class next week. Class will begin on Tuesday, September 11th. Space is limited.
