Students in Mrs. Salisbury’s social studies class are making posters of the Midwest during the 1800’s and 1900’s.  The students really enjoy this project!

Why Penguins Can't Fly - By Jaimie Thompson

Why Penguins Can’t Fly

By:  Jaimie Thompson

A long time ago when God created the Earth, God said he wanted a bird that can fly so he made a penguin.  One day the penguin was so happy so he went to get something to eat and found a huge cake.  He ate and ate and ate but wasn’t full.  He went to the frige and inside was a huge, huge, ham so he ate and ate and ate but still wasn’t full.  He then went to the freezer and opened it.  There right in front of him was a ice cream cone, 10 feet wide!  He ate and ate and ate every single bite, finally he was full.  When he went outside, God said, “Good great, you’re so fat you probably can’t fly.  Let’s see.”  He flapped his wings more than thirty times and the penguin said, “Oh my gosh, I can’t fly!”  That is why penguins can’t fly.
