oAdvent Collection
As you know during Advent we collected money for Connie, a little girl in Jamaica to help pay for her school tuition and living expenses. We are happy to announce that we collect $3,500.00. The Sixth Grade brought in the most money for our Advent Service Project. Thank you to all who gave so generously.

Catholic Schools Week Student Body Photo
On Friday, January 22nd, we will take a school photo of all the students to be used during Catholic Schools Week. Each student must wear their new Faith in Education t-shirt on this date. Please put this on your calendar as a reminder for you and your child.

Catholic Schools Week
The week of January 31st - February 5th our schools will join all Catholic Schools across the nation in celebrating Catholic Schools Week. This year’s theme is Catholic Schools: Dividends for Life.

oChili Supper/Book Fair
On Monday, February 1st, the 4-6 Campus will be hosting a Chili Supper for all our families as a thank you for all you do for our school. The Book Fair will also open on this night. Please join us and let us appreciate you!! See additional information for dinner reservations.

oMid-Quarter
Due to INow accessibility to parents, we will not be sending individual hard copies of progress reports at mid-quarter. If you do not have access to the parent portal and would like a hard copy, please contact the school office.

Please see the menu for the month of February. Please keep your child’s lunch account balance positive. If you have any questions concerning your child’s account, please contact Ms. Becky.

PTO News
It Is Time!!! The Elementary PTO will hold its Annual Dinner and Auction on February 20th at the Sports Center. This is always a fun evening, a great support for our schools, and this year several new activities have been added.

 

Candy barWorld’s Finest Chocolate
OCS will kick off the WFC fundraiser on January 26th. This past week permission slips were sent home with students in grades K-8. Please complete the forms and return to the schools. We thank you for your help to reach our $45,000 goal by the February 12th deadline.

 

LOOK WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE 4-6 CAMPUS!

Benjamin Conkright was invited to the Daviess County Cooperative Extension Program Success to Legislators on December 14th as the Daviess County 10 year old 4-H speech contest winner. After being treated to lunch, he was able to present his speech to local state, city and county legislators. Grace Wright, a fifth grade student, submitted the winning design for The Diocese of Owensboro’s Office of Youth Ministry’s logo contest. Members of the Ministry wore jackets with the new logo design to the National Catholic Youth Conference in Kansas in November.

A winner from each classroom participated in a school Spelling Bee to determine a school winner. The following students placed 1st and 2nd. George Kurtz (1st) pictured right and John Henry Booth (2nd) pictured left. George Kurtz will represent the 4-6 Campus at the Diocesan Spelling Bee during Catholic Schools Week. Congratulations to the following students for earning a place on the One Hundred Point Club for AR: Emma Lanham, Benjamin Conkright, Olivia Bickett, George Kurtz, Mary Anne Murphy, Alli Thompson, Michaela Murphy, Trey Hamilton, Matthew Caldwell, Katie Beth Dorris, Samantha Horsley, Emma Hyland, Raychel Bahnick, and Emma Goetz.

Students in Mr. Calhoun’s sixth grade Science class are shown constructing solar ovens. The students are learning about alternative energy resources that are renewable and nonpolluting. The students will test their ovens on a sunny day and record the data for later analysis.

OCES 4-6 Campus took advantage of the Bluegrass in the Schools Program during the first week of January. Mr. Randy Lanham was the guest artist from the International Bluegrass Museum here in Owensboro. Students were introduced to the guitar with instructions from Mr. Lanham. He also reviewed facts about Bluegrass Music. A Bluegrass Concert by Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike was performed for the students on January 14th.
