Lent
Jesus said, “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matthew 22:37b-40).
Lent is the time we try with all our hearts to turn back to God. That turning back is called repenting. Repentance and penance are two important works of Lent. Also during Lent we come closer to God by spending more time praying, either with each other or when we’re alone, by fasting, which means eating less or giving up something that distracts us from knowing God, and by giving alms, which means giving money, time, or possessions to help people in need.
Will giving up candy for six weeks help us to love God more? Will putting a few coins aside help us to see and love Christ in the people who stand in front of us every day? Will eating fish on Fridays help us to meet God? Everything depends on the attitude in our hearts. God only wants us to change the things we do if it will make our hearts, souls, and minds overflow with love for him and for our neighbors. All of our work during Lent leads to Easter, when we will join in celebrating the Resurrection and the risen life that we receive in Baptism. (Children’s Daily Prayer 2009)
Lenten Service Project
During Lent our school will take time to think about how much the Gospel means to us and how well we are living up to God’s law of love. In an effort to become more prayerful and to share what we have with those who are in need, we will have a “Loose Change Drive” to aid Connie, a little girl in Mandeville, Jamaica. The money will go towards her tuition and care. Please read the attached explanation.
Ash Wednesday
February 25th is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Church’s Lenten Season. We invite you to join us each week for Mass, especially during Lent. The Liturgy will be celebrated with Father Pete Hughes on Wednesday, Feb. 25th. Mr. Calhoun’s class with lead us in song and prayer.

Book Fair
WOW! What a success! Thanks to many volunteers, parents, and students, the Book Fair was a great fundraiser for our library. We appreciate all your patience with the rescheduling due to the ice/snow storm and days out of school. We were able to purchase over $1000.00 worth of new books for our school.
The Girls were the winners of the “loose change” contest and enjoyed a non-uniform day on Friday. Good Job, Ladies!
A big “THANK YOU” to Ms. Alvey for coordinating this project.
Catholic Schools Week T-Shirt
We have a winner – Allison Wright, a fourth grade student, has won the CSW t-shirt design contest. Congratulations to Allison and her family, Gary and Nadine Trogden.
The school will purchase a T-shirt with the design for each student in our school at no cost to the parent.
