Uniform Reminder
As stated in our handbook, hair should be neat, clean, well-groomed, and should in no way cover the eyes. Only natural hair colors are permitted. Hair that is distracting to the learning environment will not be allowed. Please address this with your child if this is an issue. Students will receive uniform infractions if they fail to comply with our uniform policy.
OCES 4-6 Campus Welcomes Krystal Smith
Mrs. Hardesty’s class received a new visitor this week. Krystal Smith, a student teacher from Brescia University, will be observing and teaching throughout March and April. Ms. Smith is completing her Elementary Education Bachelor of Science Degree and plans to graduate in May. Welcome Krystal!
Academic Team is a Winner!
OCES 4-6 Campus Academic Team won first place at the Governor’s Cup Competition on March 1st. Congratulations to all team members. Take note of the students who will move on to the Regional Competition on March 22nd.
AR Deadline
The last day to earn AR points for the third quarter is quickly approaching. If you still need your points, keep reading!
PTO Nominations
It is time to nominate Executive Board Officers for the 2008-09 school year. If you or someone you know would be interested in this opportunity, please volunteer for the PTO.
15th Annual OCS Food and Personal Care Drive
Once again, our school will be participating in the OCS food and personal care drive. Students may bring in their items during Holy Week March 17-21. Below is a list of suggested items. We appreciate your generous donations.
Cleaning supplies: laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, cleanser, Lysol, bath soap
Paper products: toilet paper, aluminum foil, plastic wrap
Personal products: razors, toothpaste, soap, toothbrushes, combs, deodorant, shampoo, hair conditioner
Other: canned goods, coffee, tea, canned fruit, sugar, flour, etc.
Lent Sacrifice
Every Friday during Lent we will not be serving extras during lunch. This act of fasting should help the students become closer to God in preparation for Easter.
Mass
Ms Branch’s students will plan the 9AM Liturgy for March 13th and Father Bakka will be our celebrant. You are invited to join us!
We Appreciate You …
… Mrs Blandford who helps plan all of our Liturgies and prayer services, and helps us learn new songs and responses.

Spotlight on Music
Many of our students learn more about music and share the gift of music beyond the school day.
- Lucy Kurtz has joined the newly formed KY Youth Chorale in Owensboro.
- Cory Burdette performed with the All-District Band in Madisonville in January.
- Stephanie Hayden, Emma Hyland, and Rex Berry will participate in a NFMC-sponsored piano festival on March 8.
- Emily Marshall, Sydney Taber, Natalie Jones, Molly Head, and Jenna Carrico are already practicing for the ODT’s “West Side Story” dance event.
- Mikayla Berry, Jackson Bittel, Lauren Brown, Evan Christodoulou, Aubrey Clark, Braxton Coppage, Cecilia Crowe, Mary Eichholz, Rebecca Gross, Lesley Harney, Gabrielle Hoffman, Natalie Jones, Marcus Keller, Michael Mills, Michaela Murphy, Natalie Newton, Madeline Rafferty, Abby Schueler, Laurine Scott, Abby Tignor and Christina Wathen are studying the art of violin music with Mr. Jim White.
- Jack Padgett sings in the St Stephen’s Cathedral Children’s Choir.
- Haley Kase, Emily Linn, Hannah Aull, Emily Wills, and Becca Ballard sing in the Blessed Mother Children’s Choir.
- Anne Pfeifer, Sydney Tabor and Natalie Jones sing in the Immaculate Children’s Choir.
Students can sign a poster in the music room with any special music activity in which they are participating. Many thanks to all the students who lead the singing and fully participate in the Liturgy with your voices and playing instruments. KEEP THE MUSIC ALIVE!
The students in Mrs. Castlen and Mrs. Hardesty’s classes are standing with some of the projects they completed in a Social Studies unit on the American Revolution. The students could write a report, create a poster, poem, or booklet about someone who had some part in the American Revolution.
