October Rosary
During the month of October we will be having two Rosary Services in dedication to our Lady of the Rosary. October 3 Mrs. Brant’s class will be leading the rosary and on October 25, Mrs. Gail Thompson’s class will be leading a Marian Devotion.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for October 5 from 3:00-8:00. You will be getting an invitation via e-mail to sign up for your conference time. Please make every effort to arrange a conference time. Conferences are scheduled in 10 minute increments. We ask that everyone keep to the time allotted in order to keep conferences on time. If you feel the need for additional time, please contact your child’s teacher. Art, Music, and Media Center teachers will also be available 3:00—8:00 if you wish to conference with them. We look forward to seeing you.
Let’s Get Walking
The Northwestern Mutual Steps for Fun Program is an initiative designed to prevent and intervene in the rising incidence of childhood obesity in the Owensboro, KY and Evansville, IN communities. Northwestern Mutual will be providing mentors from the YMCA and Kentucky Wesylan College to assist in promoting the program throughout the school year.
As part of this pilot program, our fourth grade students will be participating in this walking partnership between Northwestern Mutual, Owensboro and Evansville Public School, and Kosair Children’s Hospital. Each student received a downloadable pedometer and has been challenged to log as many steps as possible using a web-based computer program located on the Kosair Children’s Hospital website. The students will be participating in five walking challenges over the course of the school year.
Accelerated Reading Goals
Students have until October 3 to reach their first quarter AR goal. All students who reach their goal will earn double recess. Please encourage your child to read and reach his/her goal. Remember their AR reading accounts for one reading grade.
America’s Legislators Back to School Program
The America's Legislators Back to School Program is an annual nation-wide event that "kicks off" the third week of September. From now until the end of the school year, hundreds of state legislators will talk with students about how American democracy works. Senator Joe Bowen will be visiting our sixth grade students on the 28th of September.
All Things Girls and All Things Boys
This month our sixth grade students will be participating in this program taught by Robert and Katie Edge. All Things Girls and All Things Boys is a Catholic book series inspired by Pope John II’s teaching on the dignity of women and men, including friendship, modesty, and etiquette. Students learn the answers to important questions such as “Why I am here?”

“Give Drugs the Boot!”

This would be a good time to discuss the effects of drugs with your children. It is important that they understand how their choices can affect the rest of their lives. By choosing a drug-free life style, children will be better equipped to achieve their goals and become responsible members of their family, church and community.
