Elementary K-3 Campus Newsletter

December 2009

o News and Reminders

~ Advent begins on Sunday, November 28. Each morning we will read an Advent meditation and sing a special Advent song. We will also be doing Corporal Works of Mercy to help those in greatest need during this Christmas Season. Please read over the attached information. Each child is asked to bring in an item to help with one of our projects.

~ Santa Claus- A special request was put in to Santa, and although it is his busiest time of year, he will be visiting the students at the K-3 Campus on the last day of school before Christmas!

~OCES Cookbooks- Attached you will find an order form to purchase a Cookbook that was compiled by OCS Families and Friends. These make great gifts for Christmas! Send the form in to the office and we will send a cookbook home with your child the next day.

Immaculate Conception
December 8 is a Holy Day of Obligation. The K-3 Campus will celebrate Mass at 9:00. All family and friends are invited to join us.
The Immaculate Conception refers to the conception of Mary and our belief that she was protected from original sin, that she did not have a sinful nature, and was in fact, sinless.

oChristmas Program- The Christmas Program will be on a much smaller scale than in the past few years. Due to the expense, the PTO decided not to rent the RiverPark Center this year. We will have a short program on December 11, during the school day in the gym. The program will begin at 9:00. Students may wear Christmas Colors- red and green!!

oScrip Succe$$ for Holiday Shopping

Don’t forget that you can purchase Scrip at the K-3 Campus every Saturday from 8:00-5:00.

Also, on Friday, November 26 (the day after Thanksgiving) Scrip will be available in the K-3 Campus Office from 8:00-5:00.

ocsAs we begin the Advent Season, the BEST part about going to a Catholic School is that we can celebrate our faith and pray in preparation for the celebration of Christmas and the birth of Jesus. We have several projects at the K-3 Campus that we will be working on to help us stay focused on the REAL meaning of Christmas. We want to instill in the children the importance of reaching out to others who are less fortunate by putting into action the Corporal Works of Mercy.

FIRST We will reach out to those who don’t have warm winter clothing by asking each grade level at the K-3 Campus to bring in an item that will be donated to area shelters. Below you will see the item category that each grade level is responsible for. You can send in either child or adult size. Please have your donation to the school by December 15.
Kindergarten- Socks
1st Grade- Mittens or Gloves
2nd Grade-Sock Caps or Ear Muffs
3rd Grade- Scarves

SECOND We will reach out to those who are in prison. The students will make Christmas Cards for the Inmates of the Daviess County Detention Center. There are over 750 Inmates at this time. Students will write messages of hope, blessings, prayer, and peace. (Children will not put any identifying information on the card.)

THIRD We will nurture our faith and understanding of Advent, by beginning each day with an Advent Song and Meditation as a school. The morning song will be led by a different class each morning over the PA system. In addition, each classroom has activities planned to lead your child into a faith-filled Advent and Christmas Season!
